On the Nickelodeon show, Supah Ninjas, a group of friends bands together to form a crime-fighting group of ninjas!
We asked Supah Ninjas stars Ryan Potter, Carlos Knight, and Gracie Dzienny all about what it takes to be a ninja, and what it’s like to star on the show!
Not everyone can be a ninja. It takes years of practice, concentration, and dedication. Gracie and Ryan agreed, however, that there’s one thing that really helps them get into the ninja spirit!
“When I put on that black Lycra, I feel unstoppable,” Gracie said.
“I put on the ninja suit and, BAM, ninja, in the shadows,” Ryan agreed.
It’s probably hard not to feel like a real ninja when you really look the part!
Carlos has a different ninja routine.
“All I really have to do is turn up my energy and take note of what’s happening around me in the scene,” Carlos said. “It all flows naturally.”
Snacks also played a big part on the Supah Ninjas set.
Every week during the filming of the most recent season of the show, Gracie baked eight dozen cupcakes that tied into the villain of the week!
“The cupcakes I baked every week for the cast and crew really had an impact,” Gracie said. “It was my creative outlet.”
Ryan’s power foods happen to be Japanese, which fits in perfectly with his role as a ninja!
“Anything Japanese – ramen, rice, curry, rice balls, miso soup, and did I mention rice?”
Ryan was born in Oregon, but he was actually raised in Japan until he was 7! He’s also fluent in Japanese and has been studying kung fu since the age of 8.
The cast has loved working on Supah Ninjas, not only because of the cool opportunity to be ninjas, but because they’ve learned so much along the way.
Gracie remembers struggling on set, and hearing a line from the show that has stuck with her in real life.
“Your dedication is most impressive,” says George Takei‘s character, playfully called “Hologramps.” “But the road to perfection has no destination.”
“I was really nervous about not always being perfect on set and I had to learn to embrace my flaws and that everyone makes mistakes,” Gracie said.
Ryan Potter has learned some life lessons on the set, too.
“Study hard,” Ryan said. ”Be a good friend. Don’t tease and bully people because that makes you a villain, not a ninja.”
The young cast have also had the great luck of working with seasoned actor, George Takei. Gracie was especially thankful.
She said that one of the top perks of being a Supah Ninja was “Having a mentor like George Takei, both onscreen and off. He teaches us so much by example and you can’t help but smile when you have a conversation with him.”
You could definitely learn a lot by taking a note from their book!
Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards nominees have just been announced but we’re already buzzing to see who will win in each category! Josh Duhamel will host the show on March 23.
Have any guesses as to who will nab the orange blimps? Here are our predictions for the music categories!
Favorite Music Group
Hands down, our prediction for the winner of this award goes to pop phenomenon One Direction! In the last couple of years, the boys have taken the world by storm, and their fan base is full of loving and dedicated Directioners. We think they have the upper hand against contenders Big Time Rush, Bon Jovi, and Maroon 5.
Favorite Male Singer
Justin Bieber really deserves this title, especially after the release of his latest album, “Believe Acoustic,” which has blown away Beliebers and non-Beliebers alike. He’s proven his maturity and talent in the past few years, which we think will help him win against nominees Bruno Mars, Blake Shelton, and Usher
Favorite Female Singer
With the flurry of hitsTaylor Swift has been putting out in the past year, it’s hard not to see her as the winner in the category. “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” “Begin Again,” “I Knew You Were Trouble” and the upcoming single “22“ all coming off her latest album, she’s a pop powerhouse to be sure. That’s not to say that the other gals on the list, Adele, Katy Perry and P!nk, aren’t all massively talented in their own right. We just think Taylor has it this year!
Favorite Song
What a tough choice! The nominations went to Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Call Me Maybe,” PSY‘s “Gangnam Style,” Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” and One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” and all of those songs were personal favorites this year! Still, the song that will probably have the most lasting power, and that I think will take home the blimp, is “What Makes You Beautiful!”
Unhappy with the number of pop stars appearing on your TV screens? That number is about to get a bit larger with Carly Rae Jepsen and Cher Lloyd slated to make special guest appearances on two of your favorite shows!
And if you’re a big Cher Lloyd fan, don’t miss her special guest appearance on Nickelodeon‘s Big Time Rush! She’s also playing herself in the episode, which is set to premiere this spring!
Which guest appearance are you most looking forward to?
“ Supah Ninjas” star Ryan Potter recently took time off from being a ninja and decided to dedicate time to the “Big Brothers Big Sisters” organization!
For years, Ryan was a little brother. Now that he’s a celebrity, he thought it was time to give back to the organization that gave him so much, and he did fundraising for the charity and helped spread awareness of the group to his many fans!
The Victorious and iCarly stars are banding together in the new film about a group of friends who try to get payback after they’re swindled out of a super valuable baseball card!
I can’t wait to see the group dynamic- especially between Ariana and Jennette, since they’ll be appearing together soon in the new Nick show, “Sam and Cat!”
The movie will probably be out in 2014. It’ll be worth the wait! What do you gals think of the news?
Nickelodeon fans were hit hard recently when the network announced that yet another show, “How To Rock,” would not return for another season.
It’s joining “iCarly” and “Victorious” in the line of Nick shows soon coming to a close. We’re upset that we won’t see Cymphonique Miller and Max Schneider return, but we just know they’re moving on to bigger and better things!
